Journalist Hakan Dirik was sentenced to 10 months in prison for reporting on allegations that chemical substances used in the production of sarin gas were being shipped from Turkey to jihadist groups in Syria. The sentencing was postponed for five years. Dirik said the decision meant journalists could not report news outside of press conferences. His lawyer announced they would appeal the decision, stating that granting only nine days for the defense in a nine-year trial violated the right to a fair trial.
