Following a complaint by Aydın Metropolitan Mayor Özlem Çerçioğlu, who resigned from the CHP and joined the AKP, writer Ergün Poyraz was arrested. The Aydın Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office appealed the October 31 decision to release him on judicial supervision. The prosecutor’s office stated that Poyraz was released without his defense being heard and requested that the release decision be revoked and an arrest warrant be issued for his re-arrest. Poyraz was arrested on October 2 on allegations that he shared photos of Çerçioğlu’s home on social media. His lawyers emphasized that his detention posed a risk to his life due to serious health problems.
