Journalist Fuat Yaşar was sentenced to 116 days of judicial fines by the Istanbul 63rd Criminal Court of First Instance for a post he made on the X platform in 2015. The case against İbrahim Karagül, a former writer for Yeni Şafak, on charges of insulting him had previously been dismissed on the grounds of the statute of limitations. The Istanbul Regional Court of Appeals 24th Criminal Chamber overturned the dismissal decision upon the request of Karagül’s lawyer and ruled that the case should be retried. In the retrial, the court decided to postpone the announcement of the verdict against Yaşar and ordered him to pay 45,000 lira in attorney’s fees.
