Sebahattin Yum, Iğdır correspondent for İhlas News Agency, was detained on October 16 for his news report “Umbrellas for the governor, none for veterans”. Erhan Tunç, the president of the Iğdır Working Journalists Association, who was covering Yum’s exit from the police station, was also detained. In a statement, the association said that the detention of both journalists while practicing their profession is worrying for freedom of the press. Emphasizing that journalists fulfill their duties under constitutional guarantees, the statement read: “Sebahattin Yum and Erhan Tunç are journalists who work devotedly to inform the public. Freedom of the press is one of the fundamental guarantees of democracy and social justice.”
