Can Taşkın, Managing Editor of CT News and Editor-in-Chief of CT News TV in Nevşehir, was arrested on charges of “spreading misleading information to the public” for articles and news reports he published.
On August 31, Taşkın published an article titled “Under Whose Name is Tribute Being Cut in Nevşehir?” and on September 1 an article titled “Nevşehir’de ‘Tribute List’ Allegation! The names of the President and the Minister are being used”. In these articles, he raised the allegation that AKP bureaucrats collected money from business people by using the names of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya.
Nevşehir Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation. Police searched Taşkın’s home and workplace and seized his digital materials. Detained Taşkın was arrested by the court after his police statement.
Turkey Internet Journalism Association President Okan Geçgel reacted to the arrest. IYI Party and Zafer Party’s Nevşehir provincial organizations also declared solidarity with Taşkın.
