A judicial control decision was issued regarding journalist Osman Çaklı, who was detained on the grounds of social media posts. Çaklı was detained on allegations of “praising the crime and the criminal” and was then referred to the prosecutor’s office on charges of “insulting the President” and “publicly disseminating misleading information to the public.” The Criminal Court of Peace ruled that Çaklı be prohibited from leaving the country and be required to sign in regularly. In his statement, Çaklı said he was a journalist, that he made his posts for the purpose of reporting news and informing the public, and that he did not accept the charges.
