Journalist Hamdullah Bayram was sentenced to 7 years and 6 months in prison on charges of “being a member of an organization” in a case heard at the Urfa 2nd Heavy Penal Court and was released. Bayram attended the hearing with his lawyer Resul Tamur from the Urfa No. 2 T-Type Prison where he was being held. Despite the defense, the court handed down the sentence. Bayram is expected to be released from prison today. Bayram was detained in March 2023 as part of an investigation conducted by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office and was later re-arrested on the grounds that he had violated judicial control conditions by leaving the country. The case was overturned on appeal and sent back to Urfa for retrial.
