The Istanbul Branch of the Human Rights Association (İHD) Prisoners’ Commission held a protest in front of the association’s building in Beyoğlu, Istanbul, on November 18, 2025, demanding the release of Hatice Onaran, a seriously ill prisoner who has been held in Gebze Women’s Closed Prison since October 10, 2024, on charges of “financing terrorism.” A banner reading “End judicial pressure on human rights defenders. Hatice Onaran is not alone” was displayed. Mehmet Acettin, head of the Istanbul branch of the Human Rights Association, said that Onaran’s health had deteriorated due to prison conditions and that a hospital examination had revealed high cancer markers. Acettin emphasized that sending money to prisoners is not a crime and demanded Hatice Onaran’s immediate release. The protest ended with chants of “Hatice Onaran is not alone”; money was then sent to Onaran via PTT.
