Journalist and Halk TV writer Bahadır Özgür, who reported on the fund investigation, was detained on a charge of “violating the confidentiality of an investigation.” Police took Özgür to the Istanbul Police Department complex on Vatan Avenue for statement procedures. The detention was based on the allegation that a document claimed to be confidential in the investigation had been shared from Özgür’s X account. In a report published on 13 October, Özgür wrote that 29 people had mistakenly been included in a 141-person list subject to asset measures in the fund investigation. The Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office said measures remained in place against 109 people. In his statement to police, Özgür said he had worked as a journalist for about 30 years and prepared his reports to inform the public. He recalled that Justice Minister Akın Gürlek had announced the 141-person list on television and said his report was based on the minister’s statement. His lawyer Mürsel Ünder argued that the investigation file contained no document showing that a confidentiality order existed and said journalistic activity did not constitute a crime.
