The house arrest order issued 56 days ago against journalist İsmail Saymaz was lifted.
Saymaz had been detained on March 19 on charges of “aiding an attempt to overthrow the government” in connection with the Gezi Park protests, and was placed under house arrest on March 21 on judicial control conditions. Saymaz’s first appeal was rejected, but his second appeal was accepted.
According to Halk TV, the house arrest ended and Saymaz will be subjected to a judicial control measure that includes a signature once a week and a ban on traveling abroad. AA reported that the decision was taken at the request of the attorney general’s office.
