An investigation was started against Evrensel Daily reporter Özer Akdemir following the complaint of a mine company owner, after Akdemir has reported the resistance of villagers against the basalt mine operated between Karaburç and Karaburna villages of Hacıbektaş district in Nevşehir. Akdemir is charged with “insult” due to sharing a video in which the mine company owner called the villagers, “ignorant people” and tweeting, “This is the perspective of a late capitalist coming to the village with his Porsche car and calling the villagers ‘ignorant’.
