At Kocaeli University, security chief Hasan Çölgeçen intervened with students from the Communication Club who had set up a booth as part of New Year’s events approved by the rector’s office. The students stated that the security chief did not allow the booth to be set up and called club member Abbas Vural to the security office, where he assaulted him. Abbas Vural stated that despite showing his permits, he was cursed at and assaulted in the security office in the presence of other security guards. After the incident, the campus manager stated that the booth activity was permitted, but the security chief continued his intervention. While student Abbas Vural filed a complaint against the security chief, it was learned that the security chief also filed a complaint against the student. The Student Clubs Supreme Council canceled the event on the grounds that it “could create a security problem.”
