Istanbul University students organized a march on campus to protest the hike in cafeteria fees. University security intervened the protest by confiscating their megaphones.
Students gathered in front of the club stands in the garden and called for a march, which led to a brawl with security guards. A student reacted by saying, “We have become criminals for saying that we cannot eat 52.5 liras worth of food with 100 liras a day KYK fee.”
Students chanted “Our right to food cannot be usurped” and “Universities are ours, they will be liberated with us”. The solidarity letter of Rana Khalouk Babazade, a student facing deportation due to last year’s protests, was also read at the protest.
