DEM Party Diyarbakır Deputy Sevilay Çelenk brought the prison sentence given to seriously ill prisoner Hatice Onaran to the Parliament’s agenda on January 7. Çelenk stated that Onaran was sentenced to 4 years and 2 months in prison for depositing money into the prison account for eight seriously ill prisoners and that the sentence was finalized. In a written question submitted to Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç, Çelenk emphasized that this practice violated the right to life and health and asked why the request for a stay of execution had not been finalized. The question also noted that Onaran was 79% disabled and undergoing treatment for colon cancer.
