IBB Ağaç A.Ş. employee Nuri Başkapan filed a criminal complaint against President Erdoğan and some high-ranking members of the judiciary for “attempting to overthrow the constitutional order”. However, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office launched a new investigation against Başkapan for “insulting the President”. The prosecutor’s office evaluated the statements in the petition under TCK 299. Başkapan reacted to the decision by saying, “Filing a criminal complaint as a citizen is now considered a crime.”
