The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation against TİP spokesperson and Istanbul MP Sera Kadıgil over a speech she gave in İzmir on 31 July. Prosecutors opened the investigation ex officio on charges of “insulting the President” and “threat” over Kadıgil’s remarks about President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. TİP criticized the decision and said the investigation targeted freedom of thought and expression.
