Istanbul Administrative Court rejected Ekrem İmamoğlu’s application for a stay of execution against his diploma canceled by Istanbul University.
The court ruled that the conditions of “irreparable damage” and “clear violation of law” were not met.
İmamoğlu’s lawyers argued that the revocation was made by an unauthorized board and that this decision, taken 35 years later, violated legal security.
The Rectorate, on the other hand, claimed that Girne American University was not recognized at the time and that the transfer was irregular.
CHP Group Deputy Chairman Gökhan Günaydın criticized the appointments and administrative interventions during the judicial process and stated that the decision shows the point where justice has reached.
There is a right of appeal against the decision to the Istanbul Regional Administrative Court within 7 days.
