In the diploma case filed against IBB Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, the prosecutor’s office decided to separate İmamoğlu’s file with 27 people whose diplomas were canceled. The reason given was that the testimonies of other suspects were not completed and the process would not drag on. However, the case was opened only against İmamoğlu.
İmamoğlu has been detained in Marmara Prison since March 23 as part of the financial investigation into IBB. On March 18, Imamoğlu’s diploma was canceled and his trial will begin on September 11 at Istanbul 59th Criminal Court of First Instance.
While the university’s document submission was delayed, about 500 pages of documents were submitted to the court. The resignation of the faculty dean was also linked to the diploma process. On the other hand, the court panel hearing the case was disbanded on June 20 with the latest HSK decision.
