In a report published to mark World Press Freedom Day on May 3, the Human Rights Association (İHD) stated that freedom of expression and press freedom in Turkey are under severe pressure. The association noted that, according to RSF data, Turkey has slipped to 163rd place out of 180 countries in the press freedom rankings. The IHD emphasized that the “disinformation law” is being used to silence journalists and that pressure on the Kurdish press and opposition media outlets continues. The association also characterized the failure to implement decisions by the Constitutional Court and the European Court of Human Rights as a violation of the rule of law.
