Former HDP MP Hüda Kaya surrendered to Ankara Elmadağ Women’s Open Prison after her 1.5-year prison sentence for “carrying a phone in her bag” was upheld. Kaya described the decision as “political”; the DEM Party also reacted, calling it “deliberate and arbitrary enforcement.” According to her lawyer, the sentence is based on an incident that occurred during a visit to her son in prison in 2022.
