The Istanbul 73rd Criminal Court of First Instance rejected the appeal against the judicial control decision of “not leaving the residence” issued against Medyascope reporter Furkan Karabay on February 16, 2026. The prosecution referred Karabay to court on charges of “publicly disseminating misleading information” and “targeting individuals involved in counterterrorism efforts” in connection with two news reports he produced as part of an investigation into the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. The court ruled that Karabay be prohibited from leaving the country and be placed under house arrest. Karabay’s lawyer, Enes Ermaner, announced that they would file an individual appeal against the ruling with the Constitutional Court.
