Former Nilüfer Mayor Turgay Erdem was arrested as part of an investigation in Bursa on charges of “bribery” and “establishing a criminal organization”.
While 15 of 22 suspects were arrested, 7 people, including Erdem’s wife and brother-in-law, were released on judicial control conditions.
Money, jewelry, real estate, vehicles, bank and crypto accounts were seized in the investigation conducted by Bursa Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.
A trustee was appointed to a company through the SDIF.
Erdem was elected mayor of Nilüfer with 62 percent of the vote in 2019 and was not nominated again in 2024.
