Saturday Mothers called for an end to impunity by asking for the perpetrators of People’s Labor Party (HEP) Amed Provincial Chair Vedat Aydın, who was murdered by torture during their 1058th week of protests. On July 5, 1991, Iqbal Eren, a relative of the disappeared, shared the story of Aydın, who disappeared after being detained on July 5, 1991 and whose tortured body was found on July 7.
Eren stated that Aydın’s existence, which had been denied after his detention, was revealed when his body, bearing signs of severe torture, was found in Maden Cemetery. His wife Şükran Aydın was repeatedly threatened and a white Taurus was kept waiting in front of her house for years, while many people died in the attack on the funeral ceremony attended by tens of thousands of people.
Eren pointed to the statements of JİTEM member Abdulkadir Aygan and other witnesses, as well as the testimonies and books of former intelligence chief Hanifi Avcı, and emphasized that it has been proven that Vedat Aydın was murdered by JİTEM, yet no effective investigation has been carried out for 34 years. Calling on the state for justice, Saturday Mothers said, “End the denial and impunity in the Vedat Aydın case”
