Psychologist and children’s rights advocate Emine Gizem Çetiner was charged with “disseminating personal data” for exposing a 75-year-old abuser on social media two years ago, who had been elected headman of a village in Urfa. In the third hearing held today, Çetiner was acquitted. “It was a day when courage was rewarded and shamelessness was punished,” she said after the verdict. The person Çetiner exposed had been sentenced to 8 years and 4 months in prison for sexual abuse of a 14-year-old boy. The compensation lawsuit filed by the mukhtar will be heard in September.
