The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) application of Siirt Mayor Tuncer Bakırhan, who was arrested on the charges of “armed terrorist organization membership” and “making propaganda for a terrorist organization” and was replaced with a trustee, was concluded. Turkey will pay 13 thousand euros in compensation to Bakırhan, who was sentenced to 10 years and 18 months in prison and was released in October 2019. The court ruled that the politician’s “right to freedom of thought and expression, and the right to freedom and security” had been violated.
