Dr. Barış Kaya, a member of the Human Rights Commission of the Istanbul Medical Chamber, who is imprisoned in Marmara L Type Prison No. 2, called for his trial to be held on September 9th.
In his letter, Kaya said, “We will not stand by and watch the commercialization of health, capitalist exploitation and the murder of our people. We will continue our profession with honor for our people.”
Kaya was suspended from her job on September 12, 2024 despite the lack of a finalized decision, and was detained on March 4 and arrested on March 6 during a sit-in protest in front of the Istanbul Provincial Health Directorate.
In his letter, Kaya stated that they were defending the right to free health care and said, “Our professional activities are being criminalized. On September 9th, I invite everyone to our hearing in solidarity.”
