A verdict has been reached in the case of Hazal Delal Gencer, who was murdered by her neighbors in Ankara on September 29, 2024, because she was Kurdish, and her husband Vedat Gencer, who was seriously injured.
The aggravated life sentence given to the perpetrator, Hasan Kamış, for killing Delal Gencer was commuted to life imprisonment with “good behavior reduction.” The 14-year sentence given for the crime of “attempted murder” against Vedat Gencer was reduced to 11 years with “unjust provocation” reduction.
Meryem Kamış, who was tried on charges of “incitement,” was acquitted due to “insufficient evidence.”
The family’s lawyers reacted to the decision, reminding that the attack was planned and that Meryem Kamış had recorded audio evidence. The Gencer family described the decision as “heartbreaking.”
