Mural Istanbul team announced that they were kept outside of Mural Istanbul Festival, organised in collaboration with Kadıköy Municipality since 2012. The statement made on social media with hashtags #sanatçılarsusmayacak [#artistswillnotremainsilent], #anlatkadıköy [#speakkadıköy] and #sokaklarbizimdir [#thestreetsareours] said, “Istanbul Mural Festival that was put into action in 2012 after our dreams and was curated and organised by us until this year is being organised in 2019 by Kadıköy Municipality without informing us. We see that the festival planned by Kadıköy Municipality is curated, ignoring the works of many artists hosted in the festival so far.” Mural Istanbul team further indicated that some street artworks are closed by the Municipality within the programme as well, saying, “We strongly reprimand this attitude of Kadıköy Municipality against street art and artists; we expect the support of everyone who are on the side of effort and ethics during this process. The streets are ours!”
