The Constitutional Court rejected Beylikdüzü Mayor Mehmet Murat Çalık’s application for release on health grounds. Çalık, who has been treated for cancer twice before, underwent surgery for suspected lymphoma and had an angioplasty, was ordered to be closely monitored in prison. The court rejected the release request, stating that there was no risk to his life, but issued a cautionary decision to protect his life and health in accordance with Article 17 of the Constitution. It was decided that Çalık’s health condition would be checked regularly, he would be hospitalized if necessary and all measures would be taken.
