The Constitutional Court (AYM) decided that it was a violation of the right to information that the letters written by prisoners for MPs on the rights violations they experienced inside the prison were prevented by the Penitentiary Institute administration. The Court decided that the freedom of information, protected through Article 22 of the Turkish Constitution, was violated and issued moral compensation to be paid for Şahinkaya and Korkmaz for 2000 TLs each.
