The Constitutional Court ruled that the right to life of Ahmet Atakan, who died in 2013 in Armutlu, Hatay, after being hit in the head by a tear gas canister fired by the police, was violated. The high court sent the case to the Adana Regional Administrative Court for reconsideration and awarded the Atakan family 225 thousand TL in non-pecuniary damages. The Constitutional Court rejected the claim of violation of the right to assembly and demonstration on the grounds of lack of jurisdiction.
