Adıyaman-Gölbaşı Criminal Court of First Instance issued the acquittal of conscientious objector Yasin Yetişgen, who was on trial due to “violating the Military Penal Code.” In his defense during the hearing, Yetişgen stated, “The indictment claims ‘draft evasion,’ however I am not a ‘deserter’ or a ‘draft evader’ in its general form, I am a conscientious objector. This right has been protected by the Constitution and by other international conventions with Turkey as a signing party. If you will put me on trial, you must put me on trial due to being a conscientious objector.”
