Police detained Mahir Can Ada at a checkpoint in Cizre while he was traveling to the Kurdistan Regional Government of Iraq, alleging that officers received a tip that he would “join an organization.” Ada said officers forced him face down inside an armored vehicle, beat him, stepped on his ankles and threatened to kill him. Şırnak State Hospital issued a medical report documenting the assault. Police took Ada to the Şırnak Provincial Police Department.
