TV5 General Coordinator Mehmet Ali Kayacı’s father Recep Kayacı was arrested due to his social media posts in which he criticized the Garê operation of the Turkish Armed Forces, that led to the deaths of 13 soldiers and police officers. Mehmet Ali Kayacı made a written declaration on his social media account and indicated that his father was arrested on February 18, 2021 due to “making illegal organisation propaganda.” Konya 3rd Criminal Judicature of Peace based the arrest warrant on “the conviction that he might continue such posts in case he is released” among other reasons.
