Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office accepted the indictment regarding the CHP Istanbul Provincial Congress. Ten people, including suspended provincial chair Özgür Çelik, were charged with up to three years in prison for “rigging the vote” under the Law on Political Parties.
Beyoğlu Mayor İnan Güney and Beşiktaş Mayor Rıza Akpolat were also among the suspects. The indictment was accepted by the Istanbul 72nd Criminal Court of First Instance. It was also requested to be merged with the lawsuit filed at the Istanbul Civil Court of First Instance for the annulment of the congress and the decisions taken.
Çelik rejected the accusations and said, “The aim is to discredit the CHP and silence the public.”
