CHP filed a complaint with the HSK against Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Akın Gürlek and two prosecutors involved in the IBB investigation. The complaint stated that the investigations had become systematic and violated individual rights and the principles of democratic rule of law.
The petition drew attention to a photo of a prosecutor’s desk with a model of a White Taurus, which was shared on social media. It was emphasized that the White Taurus is a symbol of human casualties and that this post undermined the impartiality of the judiciary.
It was claimed that prosecutors unlawfully violated the presumption of innocence, the right to a fair trial and the right to defense, and carried out politically motivated operations, especially against opposition politicians. It was stated that lawyers were prevented from their defense duties and access to files was arbitrarily restricted.
CHP’s Gül Çiftci said in a statement on the application, “There is not a judiciary, but an organized operation directed from the political center. HSK must fulfill its constitutional responsibility.”
