CHP objected to the decision to suspend the Istanbul Provincial Administration. In a petition submitted to the Istanbul 45th Civil Court of First Instance, the party stated that the decision is contrary to the Constitution, the Law on Political Parties and election law, and demanded that the injunction be lifted.
The petition reminded that the congress elections were held under the supervision of the election board and finalized, and stated that the court committed “usurpation of duty”. It was emphasized that the decision was not based on concrete evidence and that no delegate was found to have voted against their will. The CHP stated that the decision was directed not only against the party but also against the democratic order.
After the dismissal, delegates applied to a notary public and called for an extraordinary congress. On the other hand, CHP requested a defense from Gürsel Tekin, who was appointed as a trustee to the provincial chairmanship by the court, within 15 days. CHP leader Özgür Özel had announced Tekin’s precautionary expulsion from the party.
