Fifteen students staying at Mersin University’s KYK Girls’ Dormitory were expelled from the dormitory for allegedly participating in protests organized in support of Ekrem İmamoğlu. The dormitory administration imposed disciplinary penalties on the students for participating in protests that “damage the sense of national unity and integrity”.
The disciplinary grounds included hanging flags, singing anthems, going on hunger strike, carrying banners and participating in ideologically motivated demonstrations.
The students, on the other hand, stated that there was no evidence of their participation in the protests and that the decision usurped their right to housing. Students have announced that they will start a legal process, stating that with the increases in dormitory fees, they will no longer be able to afford accommodation.
