Evrensel Daily cartoonist Sefer Selvi was acquitted of “insulting Erdoğan” in the lawsuit filed against him due to 11 cartoons he drew between the years 2014 and 2017. Istanbul 18th Criminal Court of First Instance announced its reasoned decree for the acquittal and indicated that the expressions in the cartoons carry the quality of being “humorous political satire.” “The President has political duties as well and he must tolerate such criticisms,” the court stated.
