Cartoonist Öznur Kalender was detained on February 17, 2026, at Ankara Train Station on charges of “insulting the president” for a New Year’s-themed cartoon she drew. Kalender announced on her social media account that she had been detained and taken to the police station to give a statement. It was reported that her statement would be taken as part of the investigation.
