The Görele Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office filed a case against journalist Canan Coşkun, documentary filmmaker Kazım Kızıl and Rabia Naz Vatan’s father Şaban Vatan over a meeting they held with witness Mürsel Küçükal in 2019 while investigating Rabia Naz Vatan’s death. Prosecutors sought prison sentences of between 4 and 14 years for the three on a charge of “depriving a person of liberty by using force, threat or deception.” Kızıl was also charged with “attempting to influence a fair trial.” Coşkun and Kızıl denied the allegation that they had pressured Küçükal. Görele 1st Criminal Court of First Instance accepted the indictment and scheduled the first hearing for 22 October.
