BirGün executives İbrahim Aydın, Uğur Koç and Yaşar Gökdemir were sentenced in the lawsuit filed against them for publishing a news article about Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Akın Gürlek. The court sentenced Uğur Koç and Yaşar Gökdemir to a fine of 35,400 TL and İbrahim Aydın to 11 months and 20 days in prison. The court acquitted them on the charge of ‘targeting terrorist organizations’. Lawyers drew attention to the double standard in the trial, saying, “When Sabah newspaper publishes the same news, it is not a crime, but when BirGün publishes the same news, a lawsuit is filed.”
