DEM Party Erzurum MP and HDK Co-Chair Meral Danış Beştaş complained to the Ombudsman’s Office against the Ministry of Justice for rights violations in prisons. In her application, she stated that the execution processes of prisoners in prisons have been prevented for a long time, the access of sick prisoners to treatment has been restricted, strip searches continue, hygiene and living conditions have worsened and ill-treatment bordering on torture continues. He also stated that practices such as restrictions on publications and communication, solitary confinement, and the taking of essential items make the lives of prisoners even more difficult. Beştaş emphasized that no progress has been made despite parliamentary demands for solutions to prevent these violations.
