Dicle Fırat Journalists’ Association (DFG) announced its rights violations report for August 2025. According to the report, journalists were targeted by investigations even during the judicial vacation period, and many websites and social media accounts were shut down.
The violations that stand out in the report:
– 2 journalists were attacked, an armed attack was organized against Evrensel’s Izmir office.
– 2 journalists were threatened, 2 journalists were prevented from following the news.
– 4 journalists were investigated, 7 journalists are on trial.
– There are 33 journalists in prisons.
– 13 journalists were dismissed, 8 publications were suspended.
– Kurdish newspapers Ajansa Welat and Xwebûn were banned from access.
– Yeni Yaşam newspaper and KAOS GL’s Instagram account were closed.
– X accounts of Fırat News Agency and Etkin News Agency were blocked.
– Yeni Demokrasi newspaper’s website was shut down.
– RTÜK imposed a 5-day screen blackout and 5 program suspensions on TELE1.
– In total, 32 websites, 7 news links and 43 social media accounts were blocked.
