Didim Mayor Hatice Gençay was verbally and physically assaulted in her office at the municipal building on January 15. It was reported that Bilal Süren, President of the Didim Animal and Nature Protection Association, came to the municipality to threaten the mayor over the eviction of the association’s premises. In a statement issued by the municipality, it was stated that the area in question was designated as a green area in the zoning plans, that the association had no right of use, and that the eviction process was being carried out within the legal framework. It was announced that security guards intervened during the attack, that camera recordings related to the incident were handed over to the police, and that legal proceedings had been initiated.
