Police procedures were completed for 55 people detained in the investigation into Etimesgut Municipality, including Mayor Erdal Beşikçioğlu. Prosecutors referred 44 people, including Beşikçioğlu, to a criminal judgeship of peace with a request for arrest and 10 people with a request for judicial control. One person remained under treatment in hospital. The Ankara West Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office had launched the investigation over allegations that benefits were obtained in some municipal tenders, parking-lot leasing transactions, and zoning and licensing procedures. The suspects were accused of “forming and leading an organization to commit crimes,” “membership in the organization,” “embezzlement,” “bribery,” “extortion,” “bid rigging” and “fraud in the performance of an obligation.”
