Twelve people detained in an investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office into Halk TV Board Chair Cafer Mahiroğlu were referred to a criminal judgeship of peace. Prosecutors requested the arrest of Mehmet Necati Yağcı, Murat Koçak, Süleyman Özen, Ali Turan, Armağan Küçük, Harika Akkaya and Mediha Burumoğlu, and judicial control for the other five. The Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office had launched an investigation into Mahiroğlu on charges of “bribery,” “bid rigging” and “laundering assets derived from crime.” Companies in which Mahiroğlu was a partner, executive or otherwise associated were seized as part of the investigation and the Savings Deposit Insurance Fund (TMSF) was appointed trustee to the companies. Halk TV’s broadcasts were also halted.
