İzmir 1st High Criminal Court rejected an appeal against the third postponement of the release of seriously ill prisoner Mehmet Sait Yıldırım, who completed his 30-year sentence on 27 February 2025. The Administration and Observation Board of İzmir Kırıklar No. 1 F-Type High Security Prison postponed Yıldırım’s release on the assessment that he would “continue his relationship with the organization,” although he had no disciplinary penalties and prison records stated that he complied with prison rules. İzmir 2nd Execution Judgeship found the decision appropriate. İzmir 1st High Criminal Court also ruled that there was no illegality in the execution judgeship’s decision. After the third postponement of his release, Yıldırım suffered a heart attack on 24 August and was returned to prison after treatment. His lawyer Fatma Demirer criticized the fact that the appeal was resolved later than the ordinary period and argued that her client was being subjected to special treatment.
