An investigation was launched on January 6 against Murat Kırçı, a shopkeeper in Çorum, over a video he shared on social media explaining the economic conditions to Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek. Kırçı stated that he gave a statement to the prosecutor’s office on charges of “publicly disseminating misleading information to the public.” It was reported that the investigation was launched following Kırçı’s video sharing his criticisms regarding tax audits and merchants’ inability to make their first sale of the day. Kırçı stated that he would not make any further public statements until the investigation was concluded.
