Amnesty International started a petition campaign, entitled, “The ban against LGBTI+ events in Ankara must end,” calling everyone to defend the freedom of LGBTI+s to peacefully organise and hold demonstrations.

Ankara Governorate banned all public events organized by LGBTI+ NGOs indefinitely on November 18, 2017. The Governorate showed the reasons, “social sensitivities,” “incitement towards resentment and hostility,” “protection of general health and morality” and “the protection of the rights and freedoms of others” for the decision. The ban was declared during the State of Emergency; whereas remained effective after the State of Emergency was revoked.
